Spring is getting here, but not quite. I’m craving for the sun and heat to finally settle, but until i can go bare legs, i’ll have to put some grey tights to use, and hide sweaters under my trench coats. What are your tricks?
There are things that just work for you. You know those days/nights where you just feel like you’ve got nothing to wear, or just don’t want to think about it? Black skinnies and a vintage checkered shirt from the Citadium, my beloved black denim biker jacket from Mishka, paired with nice heels or hot kicks. Day or night! It just works.
Today, i opted for the hot kicks for a more casual vibe! I’m still tired from yesterday hehe. By the way, those babies will be making an appearance on High Kicks soon, keep your eyes peeled!
Let me introduce you to my new favorite shoes! After weeks of fighting my Post Office, they finally arrived in my greedy little hands… And i christened them by missing my bus and having to take a 20-minute strut to work.
I love this headband ! I got it for my shoot for Urbania magazine last week. I shot for the spring issue with Sylvain Dumais, and i don’t think i ever laughed so hard while shooting with people i didn’t know at all! You’ll understand when you see it ahaha!
“J’ai également connu les filles du Net stockées en masse dans ton ordinateur et qui, celles-là, portaient tous les noms regroupés en grandes catégories, les Schoolgirls, les College Girls et les Girls Nextdoor, les Wild Girlfriends et celles qui portaient des bottes qui ne manquaient jamais de te faire chavirer devant ton écran, les Fuckmeboots. Grâce à toi, j’ai appris que sur le Net il y avait peu de Women.”
Rocking a dress by -30 C sure takes guts and dedication. Last night, at the Dress To Kill Magazine party, one of my coworkers told me he’s never even seen ski slopes as vertiginous as my ass’s curves, so i felt like flaunting it !
I’ve always hated it, for some reason. Reminiscences of distant mornigs where my mother would slap me in a pleated skirt, or even worse, velvet shorts, in this hue.
She’d take a couple steps back and say with undisguised pleasure : “You look like a petite fille modèle”.
Oh Navy, what an awful start we had. Let’s try and rewrite our story. I want you fluid and bedazzled. Meet my lover, Grey.
Y’a des matins comme ça.
I was this close to going to work in pj’s…And streetwear is the closest option that i can get away with !
Heart ache. Missed buses. Broken zippers. Boiling milk. Nightmares. Sleep deprival. Murphy’s law.
That’s the way the cookie crumbles.
The recent explosion of style report websites, street fashion blogs, and articularly the fact that i never seem to agree with Metro’s hot look and fail look of the week made me wonder : what’s being a fashion “Do”? Is it about following the trends? foreseeing them? Is it about bringing something new to the table, that people will want to get a piece of too?
Unfortunately, there seem to be little to no roo
for subjectivity in this matter. Trends are crucial. Fashion Golden rules are not meant to be broken. Stay in the box, and be appropriate. If you don’t, oh the horror !
I used to hate fashion, until i came to the realization that it didn’t have to be the prescriptive carcan i figured it was. I want to have fun. I want to feel good. I want to be myself. It’s a mean of expression, ephemere art. Trends are perspectives.
For that reason, i’ll never be a 100% Do. In fact, i’ve always been a Don’t. As a child, my mother used to dress me in my isters’ old clothes. They’re 8 years older than me, so you can imagine how much i clashed! And she used to dress them alike, so every horror i had double.
I remember the day she let me borrow clothes from a friend who had an epic closet, and get dress as i wished. I took her holiday skirt and vest, they were both black and gold. I raised the spandex and tulle skirt all the way to my armpits so as to fashion a strapless dress. It had gold studs. I put the cropped vest over it, left it open. Then i teased the shit out of my extralong hair, put my black cowboy boots on, and headed outside feeling proud as a peacock.
Long story short, i met my sister right in front of our building, and she decided my amazing outfit wasn’t approriate for a 7 year-old girl, and forced me to trade the boots for white flats with little flowers. Fail !
I still have the same fabulous and mostly misunderstood sense of style now. I’m used to shruggings and disapproving glances, but the more i grow, the more i seem to get praised too. i’m delighted that even mainstream icons such as Katy Perry or Rihanna, not even to mention Lady Gaga take their fashion-forward styles right in the face of the world. Makes more room for all the original individuals !
What makes a Do to me is fun and attitude. Feel good about yourself, no matter your outfit, height, weight, shape. Feel beautiful and amazing, and it will show.
What makes a Do to you? And do you think you’re a Do or a Don’t ?
I’m counting seconds until i hear the word “fierce”.
Meanwhile, let me introduce you to my favorite shoes ! No, not the Lego ones. My NEW favorites. Snakeskin + booties + wedges + multiple corset-like straps…awwww. This morning, i paired them with deliciously soft harem-pants, a simple tank top, and a summer-reminiscent colorful and statement-making choker.
Keeping it simple and casual ! Sometimes i just get tired of running around in crazy heels at work. And especially right now, as i was too busy last night having nightmares about every stade of pregnancy possible to actually get some proper sleep… And as a result got up late and not fully awoken. Stilettos would have been pure torture. That’s when a pair of stylish studded flats, and a smart tee come handy !
I got this Mishka tee in their Brooklyn store. I actually got it because it matches Meka’s teddy jacket ! I’m lame like that. It’s impossibly soft, and the design’s reminiscent of old videogames… Plus Mishka is without any doubt the coolest brand out right now.
Those are my unlucky sandals. For some reason, they’ve been hating me since day 1. The first time i wore them, it only took me a 10 minute walk for the straps to break. It just so happens that this walk was taking me to the metro, and that i only noticed it halfway to work. You gotta love having a showroom that you can use for this kind of emergencies !
